Calendar

Covington definitely has our traditions, especially at the holidays, but two events are our claim to fame. Each fall we celebrate our Scottish roots with a Kirkin’ of the Tartans, complete with bagpipes and the blessing of family plaids. Our region in the beautiful Genesee River Valley is steeped with Scot history, and you don’t have to go far to hear a family, street or village name that harkens back to the motherland.  In November, we throw open the doors on Election Day for a pancake supper fundraiser. Speaking of food, at Easter, we host a community sunrise breakfast and every third Sunday of the month we have a social hour following worship. Children’s Day is also a special time for our multi-generational families as the school year comes to a close.  This spring, we hosted our second annual euchre tournament, and our corn hole boards are ready to go.

What’s a Kirkin’?

In 2025, Covington will celebrate our 20th Annual Kirkin’ o’ the Tartan. This is a hearty tradition celebrated throughout the US and Canada by those of Scottish descent. The term kirk is the Scots word for 'church', and we have great fun blessing the tartans of our founders. At our 19th annual Kirkin’, our piper Andrew Duncan threw out a challenge question. How many parts does a bagpipe have? Twenty! And no part – not the chanter reed responsible for the melody, nor the bag holding air, the blowsticks, or the musician are more important than the other. You need all 20 to make that crazy, loud, haunting sound. There’s a message here. God created us equal, but with unique qualities. When we all come together, something beautiful and LOUD can happen!
